Life of Pi - Yann Martel

A young man names Piscine Molitor Patel is used to being around wild animals. As a boy he grew up on his father's zoo where he helped take care of animals of all kinds. One animal in particular always caught his attention. But Pi would have never thought that he would be trapped on a small life boat with this beautifully lethal animal. Life of Pi depicts the amazing story of Pi's will to survive, all while having to live with a bengal tiger named Richard Parker in his lifeboat.

This book took me FOREVER to read. I admit, in the beginning of the book, I absolutely hated it. The whole first half of the story is about how Pi found religion. Along with this, it talked of random zoo animals that made no reappearance in the story. However, I am glad I stuck with the book. Once the book actually got to the shipwreck, I loved it. It was amazingly written and never seemed to have a dull moment. It also had a crazy twist at the end that is still making me wonder what is true and what isn't. Overall, I think this book is a good read, you just have to get through the boring beginning.

I think this book would be better for older teens and adults. It uses a lot of references and scientific ideas that make it hard to read. However, if you make it though the beginning, it becomes easier to read and a much better story.

This book's rating 6/10

( I wish I could give this book a higher rating, but I can't because I didn't like most of the first half)
